Master Sergeant Benjamin J. Ferguson

Master Sergeant Benjamin J. Ferguson enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1999 and completed recruit training with 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California. After finishing MCT, he reported for initial Aviation Electronics “A” School at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion he attended “C” School at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he gained the MOS 6323, CH-53E avionics technician.

Ferguson reported to Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 461, Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina in May 2000. While assigned he conducted two Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Deployments, one in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also supported humanitarian relief efforts in the Florida Gulf after Hurricane Katrina devastated the region. During his tenure, he was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant and held the billets of collateral duty inspector within the avionics division and safe for flight while assigned to maintenance control.

In July 2008, he reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21, Naval Aviation Technical Training Center, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, for instructor duty. He held multiple senior non-commissioned officer in charge billets to include: aviation warfare apprenticeship training, aviation technical training, “I" strand, and funeral burial detail. During this time, he also obtained his martial arts Instructor certification and was promoted to gunnery sergeant.

Ferguson reported to Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 464, Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina in November 2011. While assigned he conducted two MEU deployments and one unit deployment program to Okinawa, Japan. He held the billets of avionics chief, detachment chief, detachment maintenance chief, quality assurance representative, detachment quality assurance chief and aerial observer.

In July 2016, he reported to Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina, for instructor duty. He held the billet of chief instructor for the avionics division.

Ferguson reported to Marine Attack Squadron 223 to fulfill the billet of avionics chief for the AV-8B Harrier squadron in March 2017. While assigned there, he deployed in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force 19.1 during Operation Inherent Resolve.

Ferguson currently serves as the senior enlisted advisor at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
