Captain Justin Long

Capt. Justin Long is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned as a surface warfare officer in 1997.  He received his Master of Business Administration from the Foster Business School at the University of Washington and Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC).  While attending NWC, he was an Arleigh Burke Fellow and studied with the renowned Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely, Jr. Group, an advanced research program, focusing on future Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) warfighting and training.

His operational tours have spanned the Pacific and Atlantic fleets to include forward deployed naval forces in the Western Pacific.  He served aboard USS Cushing (DD 985) in Yokosuka, Japan; USS Ingraham (FFG 61) and USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60) in Everett, Washington; and USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) in San Diego, California.  On deployment to Southeast Asia and the Middle East, he served as air defense commander and BMD commander liaison officer for Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 7 aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).

His staff assignments include tours as a training liaison officer and afloat training specialist at Afloat Training Group (ATG) Pacific Northwest; BMD operations, plans and wargames officer for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet; executive officer and senior assessor at ATG Middle Pacific; commanding officer of Navy Recruiting District New England; executive assistant to Commander, Navy Recruiting Command; and deputy commodore for Commander, Mine Countermeasures Squadron 3.  He reported as commanding officer, Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center (FASW) in June 2021.

Long’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.  He was selected as the U.S. 7th Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Evaluator of the Year in 1999 and CSG-7 Tactician of the Year in 2008.
