Captain Stephen J. Ilteris

Capt. Ilteris, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, graduated in 1996 from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering and a U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer license.  He earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 2008 and also attended the U.S. Army War College.

At sea, he served as division officer for the Combat Information Center OI Division aboard USS Cleveland (LPD 7); engineering maintenance and training officer aboard USS HuĂ© City (CG 66); chief engineer aboard USS Tortuga (LSD 46); executive officer of USS Guardian (MCM 5); and chief staff officer for Amphibious Squadron 6.  He reported as the executive officer of USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) in June 2011 and then assumed command in November 2012.  He was also the commanding officer of USS Anchorage (LPD 23).

His shore tours include service on the Operations Plans Division (J35) staff, Global Operations Directorate at U.S. Strategic Command and at Surface Warfare Officers School as an instructor and later as executive officer.

He reported as the commanding officer for Naval Leadership and Ethics Center, Newport, Rhode Island, in June 2021.

His personal decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
