Lieutenant Commander Jacob “Beck” Beckelhymer

Lt. Cmdr. Beckelhymer, a native of Mukilteo, Washington, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2004 before receiving his commission at Officer Candidate School in 2008.  He earned his bachelor’s degree at Western Washington University and has master’s degrees from Pennsylvania State University and the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
 
Afloat, Beckelhymer served as electrical division officer aboard USS Boxer (LHD 4), as navigator aboard USS Cole (DDG 97), and as weapons and combat systems officer aboard USS HALSEY (DDG 97).  His most recent sea duty assignment was as operations officer for Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 31.
 
Ashore, Beckelhymer served at Afloat Training Group, Norfolk, as a Surface Warfare Officer Introduction instructor and at Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS) Learning Site, Norfolk where he taught the Basic Division Officer's Course at its inception.
 
He is currently assigned as executive officer, Mariner Skills Training Center, Pacific and director, Basic Division Officer Course, San Diego.
 
Beckelhymer’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
