Commander Jared Severson

Cmdr. Jared Severson, a native of Minnesota, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1999 via the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program and received his commission in 2001 after completing Officer Candidate School.  His formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering with an electrical engineering specialty from Colorado School of Mines, a Master of Science in Oceanographic Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.  He was designated as a naval strategist in 2018 after completing the Advanced Strategist Program at the Naval War College.
 
Severson’s sea tours include USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) from 2003 to 2006, completing an Arctic transit for a homeport change to Silverdale, Washington; as well as engineer officer aboard USS Connecticut (SSN 22) completing two Western Pacific deployments and Ice Exercise 2011 in the Arctic.  He then served as executive officer of USS Annapolis (SSN 760).
 
Ashore, Severson served as the force radiological controls officer at Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic, and most recently as the deputy for readiness at Submarine Development Squadron 5.
 
Severson’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards).
