Commander Riley E. Swinney Jr.

Cmdr. Riley E. Swinney, Jr., a native of Claremore, Oklahoma, joined the U. S. Navy in August 1991.  After completing recruit training, he attended Aviation Electronics Technician “A” school and Advanced First Term Avionics (AFTA) school in Millington, Tennessee.  He later earned his commission as an ensign through the Limited Duty Officer Program in 2005.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering through Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and is pursuing a Master of Organizational Management with Brandman University.

His enlisted tours include Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Oceana; AIMD Norfolk (SEAOPDET), where he deployed aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69); Naval Air Maintenance Training Unit Oceana; and CVN 71, as ship's company.

As an officer, his tours include Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 21 as a detachment maintenance officer; Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic site Norfolk, Oceana; HSC-23 as materiel maintenance control officer; CVN 71 as IM-3's AV/ARM division officer; Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific as the readiness officer; USS Boxer (LHD 4) as the maintenance officer; and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 41 as the maintenance officer.  He then served as executive officer for the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Lemoore, California.

Swinney currently serves as commanding officer for CNATTU Lemoore, California.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (nine awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various unit and service awards.  He was awarded the Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific  Senior Maintenance Officer of the Year and was the Captain Virgil J. “Virg” Lemmon Award recipient for 2020.
