Captain Dale Klein

Capt. Dale Klein received his commission in 1996 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He has also earned a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Maryland.
 
At sea, Klein served in various division officer assignments and completed a Mediterranean deployment and a Depot Modernization Period aboard USS Newport News (SSN 750).  As a department head, he served as a strategic weapons officer aboard USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735), successfully completing four strategic deterrent patrols.  During his executive officer tour aboard USS Seawolf, he completed a six-month Western Pacific deployment and commenced the first-in-Seawolf-class Depot Modernization Period. As commanding officer, he commanded USS Maine (SSBN 741) Gold Crew, where he completed four strategic deterrent patrols and was awarded the 2014 Submarine Squadron 17 Battle Efficiency “E.”
 
Ashore, Klein has also served as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy, as the squadron weapons officer and deputy commander for training on the staff of Submarine Squadron 17 and 19, in the Commander's Action Group at U.S. Strategic Command, and as the strategic deterrence and nuclear policy division chief on the Joint Staff.
 
 Klein is the recipient of the Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various campaign and unit awards.
