Master Chief Jose Mata

Master Chief  Aircraft Maintenanceman Jose Mata, was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and raised in Los Angeles, Calif.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1993, where he completed boot camp and apprenticeship training at Naval Training Center San Diego.

Mata’s tours and diverse platforms include Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC) 6 in Norfolk, Va.; Aviation Intermediated Maintenance Department (AIMD) Oceana, Virginia Beach, Va.; Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron (HM) 15, Corpus Christi, Texas; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 85, San Diego, Calif.; Executive Transport Detachment Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii; Fighter Squadron Composite (VFC) 12, Virginia Beach, Va.; Patrol Squadron (VP) 69, Oak Harbor, Wash.; then returned and served as the maintenance master chief for HSC-85 .  In 2009, he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy and completed Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat (CMC/COB) school in 2010.
 
He currently serves as the senior enlisted leader at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Whidbey Island, Wash.
 
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit and service awards.
