Master Chief Jones is a native of Sedalia, Colorado, where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout in September 1991. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1993 and completed Basic Training and Fire Controlman "A" School at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois, and Fire Control System/ Operational Readiness Test System “C” School at the Aegis Training Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Colorado Technical University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration specializing in Information Technology. He is a graduate of the Command Master Chief Course and Senior Enlisted Academy.  
 
His sea assignments include two complete tours as Plankowner, USS Benfold (DDG 65); USS Preble (DDG 88); Command Master Chief (CMC) for Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 78; and USS Tortuga (LSD 46). 
 
Ashore, Jones served at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Detachment Southwest, formerly Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Detachment San Diego; Transient Personnel Unit in Norfolk, Virginia as CMC; Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia; and Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center, Norfolk, Virginia. In July 2022, he reported as CMC for SCSTC Hampton Roads in Virginia Beach, Virginia. 
 
Jones earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist, and Master Training Specialist qualifications. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (nine awards), and various other unit and service awards.
