Lieutenant Commander Gilbert L. Bishop II

Lt. Cmdr. Gilbert L. Bishop II, a native of Longview, Texas, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1997 and attended Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois. He commissioned as a limited duty officer in February 2009.                              

His enlisted tours of duty include service aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Florida, as a rescue firefighting chief; and aboard the USS George Washington (CVN 73).

After commissioning, Bishop reported to Newport, Rhode Island, for Mustang University indoctrination.

Bishop’s operational assignments include USS Enterprise (CVN 63) as a crash and salvage officer and night aircraft handling officer; Navy Recruiting District San Antonio as the operations officer; USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the aircraft handling officer; USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as the flight deck officer; and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) as the aircraft handling officer.

Bishop currently serves as officer in charge, Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment Lakehurst, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Good Conduct Medal (eight awards), along with various unit and service awards.
