Commander Shaun E. Dennis

Cmdr. Shaun E. Dennis, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, enlisted in the Navy June 1992 as an electrician’s mate. He was commissioned under the Enlisted Commissioning Program, earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University in 2003. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and completed the Naval War College non-resident program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.

Dennis’ enlisted duty assignments include USS Guadalcanal (LPH 7), USS Merrimack (AO-179) and Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT).

His sea duty assignments include USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), USS Ross (DDG 71), USS Stout (DDG 55), USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55), strike officer for Commander, Carrier Strike Group Twelve, and most recently, commanding officer for USS Sterett (DDG 104). During his sea tours, he made eight deployments to the Arabian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea, and U.S. 7th Fleet areas of operations in support of numerous operations and campaigns.
 
Ashore, Dennis served as the assistant professor of Naval Science at Auburn and Tuskegee University Consortium in Auburn, Alabama and as action officer in the office of The Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower & Reserve Affairs in Washington, D.C. 
 
He reported as commanding officer for Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCTSC) AEGIS Training and Readiness Center (ATRC) in August 2022.
 
Dennis’ decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Combat Action Ribbon and various unit, campaign and service awards.
