Lieutenant Commander Joseph T. Jones

Lt. Cmdr. Joseph T. Jones, a native of Griffin, Georgia, enlisted in the Navy in 1999. Upon graduation from basic training, he attended and completed information systems technician (IT) “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois. He also completed global command and control system-maritime (GCCS-M), journeyman network core and information systems administration, and advanced network analyst “C” schools. Jones holds Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from State University of New York in Buffalo, New York, and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. In 2010, he was commissioned as an ensign through the limited duty officer program and was designated as an information professional (IP) officer in 2015. Jones has completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase 1. 

His operational assignments include command, control, communication, computer, cyber and intelligence (C5I) deck manager and lead inspector for the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV); flag communications officer (COMMO) for the USS Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group; N6 staff COMMO for the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (IWOARG); and information assurance manager for the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). 

Ashore, he served as the flag satellite communications officer, space liaison officer, and automated data processing officer (ADPO) at U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/Command, U.S.10th Fleet; and staff COMMO, ADPO, and electronic key management system manager for U.S. Naval Forces Korea, where he provided, maintained and ensured command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) fleet technical support throughout the Republic of Korea peninsula.

In August 2022, Jones assumed duties as the executive officer of Information Warfare Training Command Virginia Beach.

His personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Good Conduct Medal, as well as several campaign and service awards. He is a CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner and is Security+ certified. He is qualified as an INSURV inspector, staff tactical action officer, space cadre (VS-7), combat Information center watch officer, information assurance/cyber officer, information warfare officer and IP intermediate.
