Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rick Platts

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rick Platts, a native of Quartz Hill, California, enlisted in the Navy in November 1995. Platts reported to Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), Fallon, Nevada. The command then transitioned to what became known as Naval Strike & Air Warfare Center (NSAWC, now NAWDC). He was selected for chief warrant officer in 2011.

His enlisted assignments include: Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 37, Naval Air Station (NAS) Cecil Field, Florida; deployment on the USS Enterprise (CVN 65), upon return from deployment, the squadron executed a permanent duty station change to NAS Oceana, Virginia, then made the maiden deployment with the squadron on the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) (he earned his enlisted aviation warfare specialist and enlisted surface warfare specialist pins on each of these deployments, respectively); shore duty at Naval Weapons Test Squadron, NAWS China Lake, California, where he served as avionics leading petty officer and full-systems quality assurance representative; VFA-41, NAS Lemoore, California; he completed two deployments onboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as a line division chief petty officer, avionics/armament division leading chief petty officer (LCPO), flight deck coordinator, and maintenance control chief; back to China Lake at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 31 as a ground government flight representative, defense contract management agency quality assurance representative, and contract oversight team LCPO; VFA-86 at NAS Lemoore, California, where he served as maintenance master chief petty officer (acting), maintenance senior chief petty officer, quality assurance supervisor, and AV/ARM division LCPO.

Platts’ assignments as a chief warrant officer include: VFA-147 at NAS Lemoore, California; VX-9 at NAWS China Lake, California, and USS America (LHA 6) forward deployed in Sasebo, Japan.

Platts currently serves as officer in charge at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment Atsugi, Japan.
