Commander Ervin Henley

Cmdr. Henley, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, joined the Navy in 1990 as a Gas Turbine Systems (Mechanical) Technician until his commissioning in April 2005 through the limited duty officer program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University and completed a dual Master of Arts from Webster University in Human Resource Management and Management Leadership.

At sea, he served as chief engineer aboard USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) and aboard USS Makin Island (LHD 8); forward deployed as the auxiliaries officer aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) and aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6); was the damage control assistant and ship’s material maintenance officer aboard USS Comstock (LSD 45).

Ashore, Henley served at Recruit Training Command as the education, training and evaluation division officer and Battle Station 21, USS Trayer (BST 21), maintenance officer and division officer; Surface Warefare Officer School Unit, Great Lakes, Illinois as training officer; Naval Personnel Command as the branch head for Enlisted Engineering Detailer; and as the (N74) director, engineering officers training for Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC).
 
Henley reported as commanding officer, Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes in June 2022.
 
Henley’s awards include the Meritorious Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7 awards) and various other unit awards.
