Commander Ervin Henley

Cmdr. Henley, a native of Tribbett, Mississippi, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1990 as a gas turbine systems (mechanical) technician until his commissioning in 2005 through the Limited Duty Officer Program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University and completed a dual Master of Arts from Webster University in Human Resource Management and Management Leadership.

At sea, he served as chief engineer aboard USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) and aboard USS Makin Island (LHD 8); auxiliaries officer aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) and aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6); and damage control assistant and ship’s material maintenance officer aboard USS Comstock (LSD 45).

Ashore, Henley served as the education, training and evaluation division officer and maintenance officer aboard USS Thayer (BST 21) at Recruit Training Command; training officer at Surface Warfare Officer School Unit Great Lakes; Enlisted Engineering Detailer branch head at Navy Personnel Command; and N74 director, engineering officers training at Surface Warfare Schools Command.
 
Henley reported to Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes as commanding officer in June 2022.
 
Henley’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards); Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards) and various other unit awards.
