Commander John Peters

Cmdr. John Peters, a native of Benton, Arkansas, earned his commission through the Limited Duty Officer Program in 2006. He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, American University in 2018 with a Master of Diplomacy, U.S. Air Force Air University in 2020 with a Master of Operational Art and Sciences, and Naval Postgraduate School in 2021 with a Master of Executive Business Administration. 

His enlisted assignments included Naval Station Roosevelt Roads; Naval Air Station Pensacola; USS George Washington (CVN 73); Naval Air Station Brunswick where he was selected as the Commander, Navy Installations Command's Sailor of the Year 2004, and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71).

As an officer, he served as the Carrier Air Traffic Control (ATC) officer and knowledge management officer aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); officer in charge, Navy Outlying Field Imperial Beach where he was part of the MH-60S helicopter expansion; ATC and airspace officer for Naval Air Station North Island; Amphibious Air Traffic Control Center (AATCC) officer and tactical action officer aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6); airspace officer at Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Center (FACSFAC) Pearl Harbor; airspace officer and ATC officer for Naval Air Station Whidbey Island where he oversaw the EA-18 Growler expansion efforts; executive officer at Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) North Island.

He reported to CNATTU North Island as commanding officer in November 2023.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various unit awards and campaign medals.

He also holds graduate certificates from the Marine Corps War College, Joint Forces Staff College, Naval War College, and U.S. Army War College.
