Commander Huffman enlisted in 1997 as a Machinist’s Mate (Nuclear Power). Upon completion of Naval Nuclear Power training, he was selected for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training pre-commissioning program. In 2004, he received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and began his officer career in the Submarine Warfare community. In 2008, he laterally transferred to the Human Resources community. His assignments include Engineering Department Division Officer aboard Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS West Virginia in Kings Bay, Georgia; Assistant Operations Officer for Submarine Squadrons Sixteen and Twenty in Kings Bay, Georgia; Current Operations Officer for Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia; Operational Support Officer and Manpower/Manning Manager for Commander, Navy Region Northwest in Silverdale, Washington; and Commander of Oklahoma City Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where his command was distinguished as the “MEPS of Excellence” annual unit award winner for 2016. In his most recent assignments he served as Joint Strength Manager and subsequently as Chief, Strategic Programs and Policy Branch of the Manpower and Personnel Directorate for Headquarters, United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany and Director of Officer Candidate School (OCS). His current assignment is Executive Officer at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN).
Commander Huffman is a Joint Qualified Officer. His formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts in History from Miami University; a Master of Business Administration (Defense Financial Management) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California; and a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He also holds the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) professional human resource certifications.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and multiple service and unit awards.
