Cmdr. Jermaine L. Nichols, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 2001 as a machinist’s mate. He graduated from Southern University and A&M College with a bachelor's degree in business management and human resources and earned his commission through the NROTC program. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Saint Leo University. He sea assignments include repair division officer, assistant damage control officer, and ordnance and gunnery officer aboard USS Gravely (DDG 107); assistant maintenance officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 81, where he completed a 10-month Western Pacific deployment aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); IM-3 and IM-1 division officer aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); maintenance material control officer and assistant maintenance officer aboard Vinson, where he provided support to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2 during an eight-month deployment.
His shore assignments include Naval Air Station Patuxent River; and T-45 contractor logistics support integrated product team lead in direct support of Naval Air Systems Command 6.0, PMA-273 Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems. He reported to CNATT Detachment Whiting Field as officer in charge in February 2023. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and numerous campaign, unit and service awards. Nichols is qualified as a professional aviation maintenance officer. He holds multiple Defense Acquisition University career field certifications, Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Level III certified, Practitioner certified in engineering and technical management, and a Defense Acquisition Corps member.
