Lieutenant Commander Scott Mythen

Lt. Cmdr. Scott A. Mythen, a native of San Antonio, Texas, enlisted in the Navy in 1996 as a trumpet instrumentalist.  Upon graduation from the School of Music Basic course, he served as a Navy Musician for an 11-year period.  He was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer (Bandmaster) in October 2007.

His enlisted assignments include performing with Navy Band Great Lakes, the Seventh Fleet Band, the Sixth Fleet Band and the Naval Forces Europe Band.

As an officer, he served as the assistant director, U.S. Naval Academy Band, the director of Navy Band Northeast, the executive officer of the Naval School of Music and director Navy Band Southeast.  He also served as the band support officer at the Navy Office of Community Outreach.  In 2019, he became the site lead for Navy Service Support Advanced Training Command’s learning site in Kings Bay, Georgia. 

Mythen became the executive officer of the Naval School of Music in 2022.

Mythen received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Minnesota in 1994 and his Master’s in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma in 2006. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (six awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards).
