Command Master Chief Timothy A. Newell

Command Master Chief Timothy A. Newell, a native of Winfield, Illinois, enlisted in the Navy in March of 2000 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by Basic Enlisted Submarine School, Machinist Mate “A” school and Torpedoman's Mate "C" school at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. Newell is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Class in Newport, Rhode Island.
 
Newell’s assignments include the following: USS Florida (SSBN 728), earning his submarine qualification, completing three Trident deterrent patrols; USS Howard (DDG 83), where he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification and completed his first Western Pacific deployment; Recruit Training Command as a recruit division commander, training seven divisions, earning his Master Training Specialist and advanced to chief petty officer; DDG 83 as the main propulsion division leading chief petty officer (LCPO) also advancing to senior chief petty officer and assuming the duties as the engineering department LCPO while completing two Western Pacific deployments and earning his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualification.
 
His command master chief tours include service aboard Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Crew 218/PCU Kansas City (LCS 22) Blue Crew, USS Hopper (DDG 70) and with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213.
 
Newell reported to Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes as the command master chief in January 2023.
 
Newell’s military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, as well as numerous other unit citation and service awards.
