Lieutenant Commander Stephen Ray

Lt. Cmdr. Stephen Ray is a native of Baytown, Texas.  He received his Bachelor of Science in oceanography and earned his commission through the U.S. Naval Academy in 2012. 
 
At sea, Ray served aboard USS Elrod (FFG 55) as combat information center officer and 1st Lt. maintaining a U.S. 2nd Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) presence and completing a U.S. 6th Fleet deployment in support of African Friendship and Fire Scout operations.  Additional sea duty included service aboard USS Typhoon (PC 5) as operations officer and navigator with deployment to U.S. 5th Fleet AOR.; USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) as operations officer with deployment to U.S. 5th Fleet AOR as the theater air defense commander; and USS Sentry (MCM 3) as executive officer and commanding officer.
 
Ashore, Ray served as lead instructor and course coordinator for Advanced Navigation at the U.S. Naval Academy. 
 
Ray reported as director of enlisted training at Surface Combat Systems Training Command AEGIS Training and Readiness Center in July 2025 and assumed duties as acting executive officer in September 2025. 
 
He earned his Surface Warfare Officer and Yard Patrol Craftmaster Officer in Charge qualifications.  His personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit awards.
