Command Master Chief Andrew Zalewski

Master Chief Petty Officer Zalewski is a native of Clinton Township, Michigan.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 2000 in the advanced electronics and computer field and arrived at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois.  After basic training, he reported to Naval Training Center Great Lakes for Advanced Electronic Technical Core and Fire Controlman “A” Schools.  He finished his initial training pipeline as a Close in Weapon System technician and then attended school for the MK 34 Gun Weapon System in 2003.  He is a graduate of the Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat Course Class 205 and Senior Enlisted Academy Class 202. 
 
His sea duty assignments include USS Portland (LSD 37), USS Mitscher (DDG 57), USS Higgins (DDG 76), Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Tripoli (LHA 7), and USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000).  He completed six shipboard deployments circumnavigating South America and U.S. 5th, 6th and 7th Fleets in support of UNITAS 2002, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Active Endeavor, and Ballistic Missile Defense and Rim of the Pacific 2012.
 
He completed two individual augmentation and global war on terrorism support assignments to the Middle East.  He served as the U.S. Army’s Counter Rocket Artillery Mortar maintenance leading chief petty officer (LCPO) in Balad, Iraq in 2009 and senior enlisted leader to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center Forward Doha, Qatar and Bagram, Afghanistan in 2014.
 
Ashore, he served as a Gun Computer Systems MK 160 instructor at Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Hampton Roads (formerly, Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck); surface warfare LCPO at Afloat Training Group San Diego, California; and U.S. Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. 
 
In June 2023, he reported as command master chief for SCSTC San Diego.
 
He is qualified in enlisted surface warfare.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (seven awards) and other unit awards.
