Lieutenant Commander Tyson D. Fennern

Lt. Cmdr. Tyson Fennern, a native of San Jose, California, graduated from California Polytechnic State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and in October 2010, earned his commission through Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island. He earned a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from Oregon State University in 2018.
 
His operational assignment was with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three, where he deployed to Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California, as the detail officer-in-charge. He led 26 Seabees to set the groundwork for a nearly two-acre concrete aircraft parking apron project. After deployment, he joined Alfa Company as a platoon commander and assistant company commander.
 
His shore assignments include project engineer and planner, Public Works Department, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington; contracting officer’s representative and military construction liaison, Isa Air Base, Bahrain; facilities engineering & acquisition division director, Public Works Department Bahrain, Naval Support Activity Bahrain; staff facilities engineer lead, Naval Special Warfare Command, Coronado, California; and facilities engineering & acquisition division director, Public Works Department Newport, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island.
 
Fennern reported to Naval Construction Training Center Gulfport as executive officer in May 2023.
 
He is qualified as a Seabee combat warfare specialist. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and personal awards.
He is a registered professional engineer in California and he has attained Acquisition Professional Membership, Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act contracting professional certification, Public Works Level III, and Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.

Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
