Cmdr. Benjamin J. Mills

Cmdr. Benjamin J. Mills, a native of Chaska, Minnesota, graduated in 2008 from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and earned his commission through the Navy ROTC program. He graduated from Old Dominion University with a Master of Science in Engineering Management.
 
His sea tours include strike officer aboard USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60); reactor control division officer aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73); weapons officer aboard USS Russell (DDG 60); reactor electrical assistant aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); and material readiness officer at Destroyer Squadron 22.
 
Ashore, he served as fleet engineer at Naval Reactors at the Washington Navy Yard.
 
He reported to Mariner Skills Training Center Atlantic as executive officer in July 2023.
 
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards); and various campaign and unit awards.

Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
