Commander Michael M. Caffey

Cmdr. Michael M. Caffey, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1994 as an aviation machinist’s mate recruit.  He was commissioned through the Limited Duty Officer program in January 2006. He earned a Master of Aeronautical Science (Engineering) and Aerospace Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in May 2012.
 
His operational assignments include aviation machinist’s mate, IM-1/2/4 division officer, quality assurance officer, material control officer, maintenance material control officer, assistant maintenance officer and landing helicopter assault (LHA) maintenance officer at Fleet Reconnaissance Squadron (VQ) 1; USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83; VFA-103; and USS Tripoli (LHA 7). During these tours, he participated in multiple campaigns including Operation Enduring Freedom, Inherit Resolve and Iraqi Freedom.
 
Ashore, he served as the power plants supervisor, Naval Air Station (NAS) Miramar, Aircraft Intermediate Department (AIMD); main production control, NAS Whidbey Island, AIMD; maintenance material control officer at Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron (HM)14; and fleet replacement maintenance officer for Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 2.
 
Caffey reported as executive officer of Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Norfolk in January 2024.
 
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various campaign and service ribbons.
