Master Chief Avionics Technician Michael A. Gerbert

Master Chief Avionics Technician Michael A. Gerbert, a Oxnard, California, native, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 2002. Following recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Aviation Electronics Technician (AT) “A” school at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Pensacola, Florida. He is a May 2019 graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, Rhode Island, Class 223.
 
In April 2003, he reported to his first command AIMD Oceana at Naval Air Station Oceana, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  He transferred to EA-6B VAN Operational Detachment (VANOPDET) in Whidbey Island, Washington, where he served as a CASS calibration technician.  After his tour in Washington, he returned and checked into Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, for duty as a recruit division commander (RDC).  As an RDC, he obtained the master training specialist qualification and successfully trained multiple divisions during his tour.

His sea duty includes: aboard the USS Bataan (LHD 5) in January 2013, where he served as the avionics leading petty officer; the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) as a branch chief in November 2013; the USS George Washington (CVN 73) to serve as the AIMD maintenance and material management assistant; the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in April 2018, where he served as the quality assurance supervisor and the maintenance master chief. 

He is currently serving as the senior enlisted leader of Center Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Jacksonville, Florida. 

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various other unit and campaign awards.
