Capt. Riley W. Murdock

Capt. Riley Weber Murdock, a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, graduated in 1999 from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering and earned her commission through the NROTC program. She graduated from Salve Regina University with a Master of Business Administration and the Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff College with a Master of Military Studies. 
 
Her operational tours include pre-commissioning main propulsion assistant, USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81); navigator, USS Kinkaid (DD 965) and USS Fletcher (DD 992) as part of the Navy’s first Sea Swap deployment in 2003; weapons and combat systems officer, USS Preble (DDG 88); and executive officer and commanding officer, Assault Craft Unit 2. 
 
Ashore, she served as director of Manpower and Personnel (N1) and as a Gas Turbine Engineering instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School Command (SWOS); Surface Warfare Junior Officer Sea coordinator at Navy Personnel Command; officer in charge of SWOS’ Basic Division Officer Course in Norfolk, Virginia; and director of the Commander’s Action Group for Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic. 
 
Murdock reported to Surface Combat Systems Training Command Hampton Roads as commanding officer in May 2024.   
 
Her personal awards include various campaign and service awards. Her individual awards include 2004 Junior Officer of the Year for the Newport Naval Complex; Top Gunner Award as the prospective department head with the highest-grade point average and Newport Navy League Award for academic excellence as the top graduate in 2007; 2008 Commander, Naval Surface Forces (CNSF) Junior Officer Award for Excellence in Tactics for Destroyer Squadron 21; and 2009 CNSF Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership Award.
