Captain Douglas W. Alley

Capt. Douglas Alley, a native of Pulaski, Virginia, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1990, and attended boot camp at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. He earned his commission in 2002 through Officer Candidate School. He graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

His operational and shore assignments include USS Donald B. Beary (FF 1085); Naval Submarine Support Facility; Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2; first lieutenant and weapons officer aboard USS Guardian (MCM 5); officer-in-charge, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU), Det. 19; company commander, EODMU 12, Company 1; officer-in-charge, EODMU 6, Det. Panama City Beach; EOD and diving planner, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command; training officer, Naval School EOD; executive officer, EOD Expeditionary Support Unity 2; chief staff officer, EOD Group 2; branch chief counter-improvised explosive device, U.S. Central Command; commanding officer, EOD Training and Evaluation Unit 2; and branch chief embassy security/EOD, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict.

Alley reported to Naval School EOD as commanding officer in May 2024.

He is qualified an EOD officer, diving and salvage officer and naval parachutist. His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
