Commander Joey Sanders

Cmdr. Joey Sanders, a native of San Antonio, Texas, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1999 and after boot camp at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Aviation Electrician’s Mate “A” School.  He later earned his commission through the Limited Duty Officer program in 2008. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics and the University of the Incarnate Word with a Master of Arts in Administration. 

His enlisted tours include Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 9; Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 8; and Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) North Island.

As an officer, his tours include maintenance material control officer (MMCO), HS-6; MMCO and assistant maintenance officer (AMO), Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 37; 600 division and production officer, Fleet Readiness Center Northwest Whidbey Island; MMCO/AMO, Strike Fighter Squadron 136; MMCO/AMO, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); and type wing maintenance officer, Commander, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific.   

Sanders reported to CNATTU Lemoore as executive officer in May 2024.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit, campaign and service awards. He is a 2019 recipient of the Captain Virgil J. Lemmon Award for Naval Aviation Maintenance Excellence.
