Commander Andrew Babakan, a native of Grove City, Ohio, is a 2003 graduate from Concordia College New York with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. He is also a 2016 graduate from Regent University with a master’s degree in business administration. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in October 2004. Upon being designated as a Naval Flight Officer in April 2006, he reported to Naval Air Station Lemoore for his initial training in the F/A-18F Super Hornet. His first fleet assignment was with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102 at Naval Air Facility Atsugi Japan. Other aviation sea tours include his assignment with Carrier Air Wing One as the strike operations officer, and as a department head with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213. Babakan served as the assistant air officer aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) during its 2023/2024 deployment to the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea. His shore tours include assignments with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 9 at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ)129 at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and Cruise Missile Support Activity Atlantic at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads. Babakan’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Serve Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various service and unit awards.
