Capt. Ravi Desai graduated in 1998 from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and earned his commission through Officer Candidate School. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2006 with a Master of Science in Operations Management.

His operational assignments include USS Dallas (SSN 700); USS Providence (SSN 719); USS Alabama (SSBN 731) (GOLD); USS San Juan (SSN 751) and USS Michigan (SSGN 727) (GOLD).

His shore assignments include junior officer detailer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel (PERS-42); junior board member at the Pacific Fleet Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board; officer in charge of Moored Training Ship (MTS) 626; and deputy for operations on the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron 12.

He reported to Trident Training Facility Bangor as commanding officer in June 2024.
