Lieutenant Commander Tommy Cowhey

Lt. Cmdr. Tommy Cowhey, a native of Chicago, Illinois, graduated in 2014 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He graduated from Northwestern University in 2023 with a master's degree in Machine Learning and Data Science.

His assignments include Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Mobile Unit 2 where he deployed as platoon commander to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti in support of anti-terrorism/force protection operations; Expeditionary Exploitation Unit 1, where he deployed twice under Commander, Task Force (CTF) 75 as commander of the newly formed Task Group (CTG) 75.9 where he served as the expeditionary exploitation lead in the U.S. 7th Fleet (C7F) area of operations; and CTF 75 as the current operations officer, where he oversaw the planning and execution of C7F expeditionary operations. 

He reported to Center for EOD and Diving (CEODD) Detachment Great Lakes as office in charge in June 2024.

Cowhey is designated an EOD warfare officer, diving officer, naval parachutist and battle watch captain. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and other service awards. He was awarded the Rear Adm. Draper L. Kauffman Leadership Award in 2020 for outstanding achievement as a junior EOD officer.
