Master Chief Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician Robert S. Wandell

Master Chief Robert “Scott” Wandell, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2003, and after graduating from Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Sonar Technician "A" School. He is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy and the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy. He earned his associate's degree in Administrative/Management Studies and his bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College. 

His assignments include USS Preble (DDG-88) as a sonar technician, where he successfully screened for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) special program; EOD Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5, where he completed two combat deployments to Iraq in support of Task Force Troy and one deployment to Okinawa, Japan, in support of First Special Forces Group; EOD Training and Evaluation Unit 1 as a high-risk instructor preparing EOD teams to deploy in support of the Global War on Terror; EODMU 11, where he led a platoon as leading chief petty officer (LCPO) and deployed to the Western Pacific aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); and Commanders, Task Force (CTF) 52 and 56 as task group current operations, future operations and operations department LCPO, where he deployed three times to Bahrain.

Wandell reported to Center for EOD and Diving (CEODD) Detachment Great Lakes as senior enlisted leader in June 2024. He also served as the command's officer in charge from 2022-2024.  

He is a qualified Master EOD Technician, Naval Parachutist, Surface Warfare Specialist, and Aviation Warfare Specialist.  His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (two awards), and several other campaign and service awards.
