Captain Ronald H. Rumfelt, Jr.

Capt. Ronald Rumfelt, Jr., a native of Los Angeles, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1995, and after graduating boot camp at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Aviation Electronics Technician “A” School. While at Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron (VP) 40, he was selected for the Seaman to Admiral-21 commissioning program. He graduated in 2003 from the University of San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and in 2010 with a master’s degree in global leadership.

His operational assignments include VP-40; USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74); VP-10; executive and commanding officer of VP-5; and commanding officer of Unmanned Patrol Squadron 19.

His shore assignments include pilot weapons and tactics instructor at Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 10; instructor pilot at VP-30; training and operations officer at Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School; operations officer at Commander, Task Force 67; and MPRF/VQ(T) commander assignments and assistant captain assignments officer at Navy Personnel Command.

He reported to Naval Aviation Schools Command as commanding officer in February 2025.

Rumfelt’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Air Medal (S/F) (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other service and unit awards. He earned the Commander, U.S. Naval Air Forces Peer Leadership Award (2008, 2013), Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 10 Aviator of the Year (2008) and Vice Adm. Stockdale Leadership Award (2021).
