Commander Quentin Cooper

Cmdr. Cooper, a native of New Orleans Louisiana, joined the Navy in 1993 as a Gas Turbine Systems (Electrical) Technician until his commissioning in April 2006 through the limited duty officer program. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Norfolk State University and completed a Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas (Grantham).

At sea, he served as chief engineer aboard USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) and USS Bougainville (LHA 8); pre-commissioning as the electrical officer aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN77) and was the main propulsion assistant aboard the USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).

Ashore, Cooper served at Special Boat Team 22 as the maintenance officer (N9), Engineering Assessments Atlantic as the project officer, Surface Squadron fourteen as the chief engineer, Naval Personnel Command as the branch head for Enlisted Engineering Detailer.

Cooper reported as commanding officer, Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes in May 2025.

Cooper’s awards include the Meritorious Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (nine awards) and various other unit awards.
