Commander Veronica Y. Baker

Cmdr. Veronica Baker is a native of El Salvador. She was commissioned in 2010 through the U.S. Naval Academy after earning her Bachelor of Science in Political Science. She also holds a Master of Science in Manpower Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
 

At sea, Cmdr. Baker served aboard USS Halyburton (FFG 40) as Electronic Warfare Officer, Combat Information Center Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer, completing a seven-month counter-piracy deployment in support of Operation Unified Protector. She also served as Training Officer aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) from 2021 to 2023, where she led the training department through the completion of a Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH) period, returning the ship to the Fleet after seven years.
 

Ashore, she served as Training and Readiness Officer (N7) at Commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 14; Operations Officer at Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville; and Regional Director and Lead Instructor at Navy Service Support Advanced Training Command (NSSATC). From June 2023 to May 2025, she was assigned to U.S. Special Operations Command under the J1 Directorate.
 

Cmdr. Baker reported as executive officer at NSSATC in May 2025.
 

Her personal decorations include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medals (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (three awards), and various unit and service awards.
