Capt. Troy D. Geertgens

Captain Troy D. Geertgens is a Johnson City, New York, native. He enlisted in April 2008 as a field artillery cannoneer. Upon earning his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Park University in 2016, he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He reported to Officer Candidates School (OCS) in September 2017. Upon graduating OCS in November 2017, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. In December 2023, he completed his Master of Business Administration with a focus in Management from Amberton University.

In January 2018 he reported to The Basic School. He graduated with Bravo 2-18 in July 2018. Upon graduating from The Basic School, he reported to Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, Florida, for the Aviation Maintenance Officers Course. He graduated in November 2018 and was designated a 6002 MOS, aircraft maintenance officer.

In In November 2018, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 24 at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. In December 2018, he received orders to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 268. There he was designated as the squadron’s Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer (AAMO) and Material Control Officer (MCO). In April 2019, he deployed with VMM-268 to support the Balikatan Exercise.

In July 2021, Geertgens reported to resident Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. In March 2022, Geertgens was promoted to his captain. Upon graduation, he received orders to VMMT-204 at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Upon his arrival in June 2022, he assumed the duties of AAMO where he served for two years.

In April 2024, he reported to MALS-26 to assume the duties of AAMO.

He began serving as assistant officer in charge at Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment Camp Pendleton, California, in July 2025.

His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
