Commander Carlos Carballo

Cmdr. Carlos Carballo is a native of North Hollywood, California and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science in International Relations and earned his commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 2009. He holds a master’s degree in National Security Affairs – Western Hemisphere and completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I from the Naval Postgraduate School. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Anti-Submarine/Anti-Surface Warfare Tactics Instructor program. 

His enlisted sea tour includes serving aboard USS O’Brien (DD 975).

Carballo’s sea duty officer assignments include 1st Lt., weapons officer, assistant operations officer, assistant navigator, and repair officer with MCM Crew Leader aboard USS Pioneer (MCM 9), USS Chief (MCM 14), USS Warrior (MCM 10) in San Diego and he deployed twice to Bahrain on USS Ardent (MCM 12), and USS Dextrous (MCM 13). Other sea duty include damage control assistant; USS Halsey (DDG 97) and then USS Russell (DDG 59); operations officer, USS Ross (DDG 71) where he conducted two U.S. 6th Fleet patrols; and Plans and Tactics officer, USS Fort Worth (LCS 3). Additionally, he trained and assessed afloat destroyer squadron staff during integrated phase exercises, Group Sails, and Composite Training Unit Exercises at Carrier Strike Group 15.

Ashore, he served in the directorate of Officer Engineering Training at Surface Warfare Officers School Command and as the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training’s (SWATT) lead planner and ultimately, SWATT director at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Fleet Training – Pacific Directorate. 

Carballo reported as executive officer, Surface Combat Systems Training Command San Diego in January 2026.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
