Lieutenant Commander Luslaida Barbosa

A native of Gurabo, Puerto Rico, Lt. Cmdr. Luslaida Barbosa enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1996 as a clarinet instrumentalist and served at U.S. 7th Fleet Band, Navy Band Southeast and Naval Forces Europe Band. Other duties included operations coordinator, ceremonial band conductor, unit leader and drum major, while also performing as lead vocalist and clarinet instrumentalist in support of European and African theaters of operation and the Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

She commissioned as an LDO Bandmaster in May 2012. Her duty assignments consist of the Naval School of Music, United States Navy Band, Navy Band Southeast, the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band and the Naval Forces Europe and Africa Band.

She is a graduate of the Navy's basic, unit leader, and senior musician courses and holds a Bachelor of Humanities from Thomas Edison State College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Master in Conducting from University of North Texas.

Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification.

She assumed the duties as Executive Officer for the Naval School of Music in March 2026.
