NAVAL AIR STATION PENSACOLA, Fla. – For the 2021 Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Junior and Senior Civilian of the Year winners, their performance stood out from their peers.

Sharon Bemis, Program Objective Memorandum (POM) program coordinator in N5, was selected as the 2021 CNATT Senior Civilian of the Year.  James Dils, support equipment controlling authority in N4, was named the 2021 CNATT Junior Civilian of the Year.  Both were selected as civilians of the quarter earlier in 2021 for their category.

Bemis, who has worked at CNATT since May 2016, shared some thoughts about her selection.

“I am extremely honored to be selected for senior civilian of the year,” Bemis said.  “CNATT works exceptionally well as a team, which I am very thankful to be a member.”

Gordon McKinney, N5 deputy director, provided some insight to Bemis’ performance over the last year.

“We are very proud of the work Sharon did last year,” McKinney said.  “She coordinated major events for CNATT to include the Capability Assessment/Feasibility Study working with N4 IPT/N7 RMT Leads and our learning sites to assure course resourcing for all CNATT programs (945 CDPs).  Additionally, she was very proactive working with the CNATT team to generate the Fiscal Year 2024 POM input, which is the primary means of notifying our Resource Sponsor (OPNAV N98) of needed resources.  Her dedication and professionalism are unmatched.”

Lamar Bradley, N4 supervisory inventory management specialist, had similar praise for Dils, the 2021 CNATT Junior Civilian of the Year.

“James Dils is an expert on support equipment logistics management processes.  He continues to be a go-to person for special assignments and has my complete trust and confidence in the performance of his duties,” Bradley said.  “He requires no oversight to complete his job in a meticulous fashion.  He is the epitome of a team player and possesses ability to "network" with other CNATT learning sites, Support Equipment Controlling Authorities (SECAs), NAVAIR, NAVSEA and NAVSUP.   He has earned our complete trust and confidence to represent CNATT regarding SECA roles, providing sage guidance and technical assistance in support of 23 CNATT learning sites located throughout the CNATT domain.  His knowledge of the inventory process and needs of his customers proved crucial to the mission success of CNATT.”

Dils said it was the “greatest feeling” to be nominated and selected for Junior Civilian of the Year.

“I like working at CNATT, supporting the important work of training young people to be aircraft maintainer professionals who acquire skills needed to help defend the country.”

CNATT leadership thanks each and every member of the team for their contributions to CNATT, the Navy, and the nation.
