Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

200229-N-IK959-3382 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Feb. 29, 2020) Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets participate in an Unarmed Knockout drill event during the 2020 Area 3 West Regional Academic, Athletic and Drill competition at Recruit Training Command (RTC). More than 400 cadets from 16 NJROTC and Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) units in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Nebraska participated in the two-day annual event. The knockout event is when cadets are judged on performing perfect facing movements. If the movements are judged not perfect the cadet is knocked out of the event.
