Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

University of Washington NROTC Midshipmen perform pull-ups to begin an endurance race

220409-N-IK959-1795, SEATTLE (April 9, 2022) – University of Washington Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) midshipmen perform pull-ups to begin an endurance race around the UW campus during the 2022 Northwest Navy competition, April 9. More than 250 NROTC students and staff members from the Universities of Idaho/Washington State, Oregon State, Utah and Washington competed in military drill, academic and athletic events at the one-day contest. Northwest Navy has been held on a rotating basis between the schools since 1957. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this was the first time all units were able to compete in person since 2019. (U. S.
