NEWPORT, R.I. (Aug. 4, 2022) Lt. j.g. Nathaniel Teetzel, a student in the officer of the deck course at Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC) in Newport, Rhode Island, participates in an advanced integrated scenario using the Conning Officer Virtual Environment simulator, Aug. 4, 2022. The course teaches prospective officers of the deck skills such as bridge-to-bridge communications, reporting, voyage planning, Automatic Radar Plotting Aid and radar operation, maneuvering boards, shiphandling, contact management, operational risk management, navigational situational awareness, and application of the navigational rules of the road. SWSC provides a continuum of professional education and training to ready sea-bound warriors to serve on surface combatants as officers, enlisted engineers, and enlisted navigation professionals.
