NEWPORT, R.I. (Sept. 22, 2022) Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC) Department Head Class 268 students stand at attention while the national anthem plays during their graduation ceremony at Naval Station Newport, Sept. 22, 2022. The SWSC Department Head Course is the cornerstone of a surface warfare officer's tactical education in their naval career. The graduates will take the knowledge back to the fleet, where they will teach the next generation of surface warfare leaders. These career naval professionals are part of a long tradition of 60 years of excellence at SWSC, previously known as Surface Warfare Officers School Command, as the Navy continues to build, maintain, train, and equip a combat-credible, dominant naval force to keep the sea lanes open and free, deter conflict, and when called upon, decisively win the nation’s wars.
