Rear Adm. Matthew Pottenburgh, commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), receives a unit brief from a cadet of Grove City High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), Aug. 22. The engagement was part of Navy Week Columbus to highlight the importance of citizenship, leadership, and service. NSTC, headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, supports 98 percent of the Navy’s initial officer and enlisted accession training. NSTC oversees Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps programs at more than 160 colleges and universities, Officer Training Command Newport, and Recruit Training Command—the Navy’s only boot camp. NSTC administers the Navy’s citizenship development program, which includes Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) and the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps, offered at more than 600 high schools worldwide.
