First Quarter Standouts Recognized by NETC

Two Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) Sailors were recognized for their hard work by NETC Commander Rear Adm. Kyle Cozad Feb. 6.
Naval Air Crewman (Helicopter) 1st Class Billie Tackett, attached to the NETC Supply Chain Operations Division in Millington, Tennessee, was selected as the Sailor of the Quarter and Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Marie McHellon from NETC Learning Site (LS) Kings Bay was selected as the Instructor of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2018.
Tackett, a native of Clinton, Tennessee, serves as the Naval Aviation Aircrewman and Aviation Ordnance Accession Detailer. During the award period he wrote 468 sets of orders and arranged 1,116 follow-on schools for five aircrewman ratings and the aviation ordnance rating resulting in a total reduction of 35 percent average awaiting instruction (AI) time.
"It has been an eye-opening experience seeing how every rating goes through a different path to receive training that will prepare them for the fleet," said Tackett. "Every detail into the Sailors' first set of orders leads to their initial perception of the Navy. That experience can directly impact their decision to make the Navy a career."
Tackett said he enjoys the teamwork and positive atmosphere in his division and credits his ability to accomplish goals on the well-balanced camaraderie he experiences at work every day.
"Petty Officer Tackett is a truly forward-leaning leader, he has created several initiatives within our command to empower his peers and juniors by providing opportunities for his Sailors to excel," said Chief Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Kevin Eldredge, accession detailing branch head leading chief petty officer. "In his detailing job, he has drastically reduced AI time to fall in line with Chief of Naval Personnel and NETC 'heel to toe' training initiative. I lean on him daily to drive mission and support our Sailors."
McHellon, a native of Atlanta, is the leading petty officer, managing day-to-day schoolhouse operations at NETC LS Kings Bay/Mayport. She was the lead instructor, supervising five Sailors teaching Navy Instructor Training Course (NITC); Command Managed Equal Opportunity (CMEO); Alcohol and Drug Abuse for Managers/Supervisors for Leaders; and Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor courses in the Southeast region.
"Every time I am given the opportunity to instruct, I have a chance to influence the Navy and leave my footprint behind," said McHellon. "I feel fortunate to be awarded for something I love to do. It's affirmation that I must serve our fleet and grow in knowledge to pass it down and keep our Navy strong."
A qualified Master Training Specialist, McHellon said it is a humbling experience to be part of the Navy's future by training the Sailors who will be future leaders.
Along with on-site instructing, McHellon was hand-selected to lead multiple Mobile Training Teams to deliver CMEO and NITC classes to Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, Mississippi and other NETC sites.
"Petty Officer McHellon has a unique leadership style that really reaches the students that she teaches," said Master Chief Machinist Mate Marcellus Norton, LS Kings Bay senior enlisted leader. "She not only teaches the subjects that we are responsible for, she includes real life experiences to enhance the training so the students can better relate."
