SCSTC Prepares for Reaffirmation of Accreditation Visit
11 July 2023
The Council on Occupational Education (COE) will conduct a Reaffirmation of Accreditation site visit at Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) in Dahlgren, Va., 18 - 21 Sept.
DAHLGREN, Va. – The Council on Occupational Education (COE) will conduct a Reaffirmation of Accreditation site visit at Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) in Dahlgren, Va., 18 - 21 Sept.
COE is a national accrediting agency committed to assuring quality and integrity in career and workforce training. COE is a nonprofit, voluntary membership organization serving post-secondary education and training institutions, centers and similar entities interested in the improvement of the workforce in the U.S. The award of accreditation is a status granted to a learning institution or program, which meets or exceeds stated criteria and standards of learning established by the council.
The purpose of this visit is to assess SCSTC, its 14 learning sites and detachments, and reaffirm itself as an accredited institution using the standards and criteria established by COE. Accreditation has two fundamental purposes: to assure the quality of the institution and its programs, and assist in the improvement of the institution and its programs.
The evaluation process includes an extensive self-study by SCSTC and an intensive review by a visiting team of professional educators representing the COE member institutions.
“The SCSTC team has diligently worked over the past year to update the self-study and address the required standards,” explained SCSTC’s designated COE Chief Administrative Official, Mr. Jeff Vinneau. “Our assessment of meeting the criteria has involved all departments and learning sites and detachments in our domain.”
The visiting COE team will also rely on personnel interviews, observations of conditions and practices, and other essential documentation to determine if SCSTC is in compliance with the standards and criteria required for accreditation.
“This accreditation is a critical part of our training process and illustrates our mission to provide the U.S. Navy and our allies with highly trained warfighters to maintain, operate, and tactically employ surface combat systems across the spectrum of operations,” said SCSTC’s Director of Training, Mr. Dave Tilley.
In preparation for reaffirmation, SCSTC is providing an opportunity for the public to comment on their qualifications for accreditation. Those wishing to comment should write to: Executive Director, Commission of the Council on Occupational Education, 7840 Roswell Road, Bldg. 300, Suite 325, Atlanta, GA 30350, or submit their comments via the Council website
http://www.council.org
. Individuals submitting comments must provide their names and mailing addresses.
SCSTC falls under the Naval Education and Training Command (NETC). As the owner of the Force Development pillar within MyNavy HR, NETC recruits, trains and delivers those who serve our nation, taking them from "street to fleet" by transforming civilians into highly skilled, operational, and combat ready warfighters.
SCSTC is a training organization of over 6,500 staff and students across 12 global locations and implements culture-of-excellence and warrior toughness by building a Surface Warrior mindset to complement the technical and tactical skillsets of building the kill chain and closing the fire control loop. SCSTC delivers training to over 37,000 U.S. Navy Sailors as well as 700 international Sailors from 27 partner nations annually.
