Kumamoto is the location of Yama Sakura. It’s also the location where two devastating earthquakes took place earlier this year. Petty officer Anthony Martinez introduces us to one soldier who works with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and had first-hand experience of the events.

The purpose of Yama Sakura is to enhance U.S. and Japan’s combat readiness and interoperability while strengthening bilateral relationships and demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
