This spring, the familiar sight of Marines conducting surveying exercises around the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s headquarters in Springfield, Virginia, will come to an end.

The Marine Corps detachment at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, which operates the service’s basic geographic intelligence specialist course, is scheduled to be deactivated during a ceremony at the agency March 26, 2019.

NGA has host the Marine Corps initial training course, that teaches Marines how to perform precision ground control survey operation and geospatial intelligence analysis skills, since 2008.

The last graduating class of marines at NGA, performed their final survey lessons and operations the end of 2018 and will graduate March 26 prior to the deactivation ceremony.
