Naval Education and Training Security Assistance Field Activity (NETSAFA) is the U.S. Navy’s agent for Navy education and training for international military students. Located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, we coordinate and supply training support to international governments and international organizations. As a field activity of Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), we serve as a focal point for all Security Assistance and Security Cooperation education and training program issues, coordination and advice within the U.S. Navy.

NETSAFA is an integral part of Navy International Programs Office (Navy IPO), therefore we also work with and through the Navy IPO chain of command. We are responsible for partner training support first and foremost, and we will work to assure the best training support for our international customers through Navy, other government institution and organizations, and private industry. We must be advocates for our security assistance customers by interceding with those government institutions and private organizations that impact or have the potential to impact our customer training and training support capability.

CSCS Announces its Domain Small Activity Civilian of the Quarter

The Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) recently announced its Small Activity Civilian of the Quarter (COQ) for the third quarter of 2018, Ms. Wanda Porrata.

The Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) recently announced its Small Activity Civilian of the Quarter (COQ) for the third quarter of 2018.

Ms. Wanda Porrata, a training specialist for CSCS Det West, was surprised but honored to be selected.

“I joined the CSCS team about 14 months ago and I hope I am making a positive impact on our Sailors thus far,” she said. “This award means a lot to me.”

As a training specialist, she has many responsibilities, including providing curriculum changes and revisions, performing curriculum development functions as well as overseeing the development of curriculum support documents.

“I conduct Formal Course Reviews (FCRs), in-service training sessions, and analyze training for all courses I’m responsible for,” Porrata explained. “I also maintain databases for tracking course information, schedule and conduct instructor evaluations throughout the year, track instructor qualifications and maintain master course files for 14 courses."

Cmdr. Jim Drew, CSCS Det West’s officer in charge, says Porrata performs her duties at a very high level, which significantly improves CSCS’ ability to provide the best training for Sailors.

“With her can-do-attitude and strong work effort, Ms. Porrata is an asset to not only my detachment, but the U.S. Navy as a whole,” he said.

Porrata looks forward to coming to work each day.

“I enjoy interacting with both the military and civilians,” she explained. “Most importantly, I like the sense of purpose each day brings.”

Porrata is not new to the Navy community. With her passion to help people and desire to protect and serve her country, she retired from the Navy as a Chief Hospital Corpsman.

“Even though I am no longer active duty, I am blessed to be able to continue to help shape the future generation of Sailors,” she said.

CSCS' mission is to develop and deliver surface ship combat systems training to achieve surface warfare superiority. CSCS headquarters' staff oversees 14 learning sites and detachments, including CSCS Det West, located throughout the continental United States, Hawaii, and Japan and manages and operates a Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) training division in Rota, Spain. CSCS provides over 538 courses, awards 114 different Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs), and trains over 38,000 Sailors a year. CSCS delivers specialized training for Officer and Enlisted Sailors required to tactically operate, maintain, and employ shipboard and shore-based weapons, sensors, and command and control systems utilized in today's Navy.
