Naval Education and Training Security Assistance Field Activity (NETSAFA) is the U.S. Navy’s agent for Navy education and training for international military students. Located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, we coordinate and supply training support to international governments and international organizations. As a field activity of Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), we serve as a focal point for all Security Assistance and Security Cooperation education and training program issues, coordination and advice within the U.S. Navy.
 
NETSAFA is an integral part of Navy International Programs Office (Navy IPO), therefore we also work with and through the Navy IPO chain of command. We are responsible for partner training support first and foremost, and we will work to assure the best training support for our international customers through Navy, other government institution and organizations, and private industry. We must be advocates for our security assistance customers by interceding with those government institutions and private organizations that impact or have the potential to impact our customer training and training support capability.

New leadership takes command in CNATT Unit North Island

Cmdr. Kent Davis relieved Cmdr. Kyle Caldwell as commanding officer of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit North Island (CNATTU NI) during a change of command ceremony at Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island June 10.

While in command of CNATTU NI, Caldwell oversaw complex budget requirements and management. He was responsible for more than 236 personnel daily, encompassing 1,299 courses of instruction, while serving a student population of more than 10,887.
Davis had served as the command’s executive officer since February 2020.

Davis, a native of Coupeville, Washington, reported to Recruit Training Command in San Diego in June 1989.  After graduating from Navy boot camp, he reported to his first duty station, the USS Constellation (CV 64). 

Other career highlights for Davis include: in September 1997, he transferred to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), where he held positions as the crash leading petty officer (LPO), V-1 LPO and flight deck chief.  During this tour, he was selected as the Sailor of the Year, Navy League Fire Fighter of the Year and the Military Serviceman of the Year.  In 2003, he was commissioned as an ensign under the Limited Duty Officer program.  

In 2003, he reported to the USS George Washington (CVN 73), as the Air Bos’n.  During this tour, he was awarded the Navy League Junior Officer of the Year.  Thereafter, he was promoted to lieutenant junior grade and transferred to NAS PAX River, Maryland, in 2006.
 
In 2007, he reported to USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) as the flight deck officer (FDO).  During this tour, he was selected as the 2008 Stennis Foundation Leadership Award winner.  In 2010, he reported for his 2nd FDO tour onboard the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77).  During his tour, he was awarded the 2011 Stennis Foundation Leadership Award (2nd award) and was subsequently promoted to lieutenant commander.

Upon his assumption of duties as CNATTU NI’s commanding officer, Davis expressed how humbled and honored he was to have the opportunity to serve as the next commanding officer.
 
The command also welcomed Cmdr. Mike Feldhues as their new executive officer.
 
CNATTU NI’s mission is to provide specialized technical training to aviation maintenance professionals in support of the Navy’s MH-60R/MH-60S Sea Hawk and MQ-8B Fire Scout platforms.  Additionally, CNATTU NI delivers instruction in Helicopter Intermediate Level Maintenance, aviation maintenance administration, aviation ordnance, aviation support equipment, aviation boatswain mate related systems, automated test equipment and stabilized glide slope Indicator and interior communications systems.  CNATTU NI also serves as a regional facilitator of the Operational Risk Management Application and Integration course.
